52 Weeks of Food Storage
Week 19
- Budget: $30
- Purchase:
- Lemon Juice
- Lime Juice
- Soy Sauce
- BBQ Sauce
- Salad Dressing
All right. This week’s budget is $30 and we are going to focus on five items, but feel free to add to that list with this theme.
So the five items that I have listed are lemon juice, lime juice, barbecue sauce, soy sauce, and salad dressing. That one, I realize, can open up quite a can here of a bunch of different salad dressings and that’s okay.
Your budget is $30, so I’m hoping that $30 will cover these five items pretty well. For me, I’m only gonna get one lime juice, one lemon juice, and then a couple barbecue sauces, one soy sauce, and the rest is gonna be salad dressing. So that’s what it’s gonna look like for me. We use salad dressing, not only for salads, but a lot of the people in my family like to dip things in ranch, and so ranch is gonna be a biggie for us.So that’s where the bulk of my money is gonna go or, maybe not the bulk of my money, but that’s the repeated item that I foresee for me this week. So yours is going to look different.
I will say, don’t worry about anything that you spread really. So no peanut butter, jelly, Nutella, that’s coming later. That’s a separate week. But if you use Worchestire sauce, however you say that, or something like that, that’s more like of a drippy thing.
I’m trying to describe what I want this week to cover. If you have questions, feel free to reply to this email and just say, “Hey, is this specific item gonna be covered later, or should I get that this week?” But hopefully that gives you an idea. We’re doing the bottled wet stuff that helps flavor your meals, but it’s not spreading, it’s not seasoned packets; those two categories are coming later. So hopefully that helps you determine if you need to add anything to my list.
So that’s it though. That is your job this week. That’s what you need to spend $30 on.
Now, the caveat to this is if you make your own salad dressing, then I would suggest getting the items that you would need to make your own salad dressing. For instance, if you make a homemade ranch versus a bottled ranch, then you would wanna get some ranch packets right now. And then hopefully you should have your milk in your food storage already. And I don’t know what else goes in that sour cream, probably if you got the sour cream powder. Or keep that in mind if you haven’t gotten it, that you would want that in order to have all the ingredients to make your own ranch.
So just kind of tailor this to what you do, but it’s gonna be really easy for you if you buy bottled salad dressing, because it’s not that tough. Same with Italian. I do make my own Italian dressing. So again, I would get the packets and make sure that I have some oil and vinegar ready to go to make my own salad dressing.
So $30. You’ve got lemon juice, lime juice, soy sauce, barbecue sauce, salad dressing, and then any other stuff that you would use to season that comes in a bottle. All right, have a good week!
