52 Weeks of Food Storage
Week 15
- Budget: $30
- Purchase: All the pasta!
- Sub Option: Bulk up your rice variety from Week 8, quinoa, couscous, etc.
This week we are buying all the pasta. So whatever pastas you use, if you use macaroni noodles, if you use fettuccini or spaghetti or bow tie, there are like a million different kinds. So get the pasta that you use in your current recipes.
$30 is your budget, and this actually is a decent budget for pasta. Pasta is fairly inexpensive depending on the type that you buy. So we are not going to focus on any fresh pasta that needs to be refrigerated. This is just the boxed stuff that sits in your pantry that has a longer shelf life.
Fresh Pasta
If you never ever purchase boxed pasta that is shelf stable and you need to put it in the fridge, then by all means get the fridge stuff. Just as a disclaimer, it’s most likely not going to last nearly as long, so pay attention to the expiration dates there. I also would recommend getting some boxed pasta, even if you don’t use it. It’s just so cheap that it would be better to have than nothing. So I do still recommend some sort of boxed pasta here, but just know that you can split your budget between the different things that you’d use on a regular basis.
Substitutions
So $30 is the budget. If your family does not eat any pasta whatsoever, then you can sub that out for something that is similar to pasta. So going back to like the rice week where we were talking about rice, there are a lot of different kinds of rice. There’s also couscous and quinoa and things like that. So if you want to bulk some of that up more and get more types of rice or things like that for your sub option, if you don’t eat any pasta, then this is a good week to substitute something like that in. Try to keep your substitutions similar where possible.

So $30 on pasta and have a wonderful week!
