52 Weeks of Food Storage
Week 1
- Budget: $30
- Purchase: Frozen Veggies – green beans, peas, corn, carrots, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, medleys, whatever!
- Substitution Item: Canned veggies
* Note: Frozen Veggies and Meat are the only 2 things that will require freezer space for this program. So you don’t need to go buy an extra freezer for this program or anything like that! I realize if you spend $30 on frozen veggies, that takes a little chunk out of your freezer space. So meat will be the only other thing!
All right. It is the first week of our 52 weeks of growing your food storage. I’m so excited you’re here!
So week one, we are just gonna spend about $30 on frozen vegetables. That’s it!
So, a couple things. I’m not telling you what kind of vegetables to buy. Whatever vegetables you are used to cooking and eating and using in your recipes, those are the ones you’re gonna buy this week.
So…
green beanspeascorncarrotsbroccolispinachcauliflower
whatever it is. If you buy the vegetable medleys, get those. Whatever it is, get a variety. This is the only week we are gonna focus on frozen vegetables. I’m talking about just like the bags or the boxes of just straight up frozen veggies.

One thing to consider: if you aren’t used to using frozen vegetables, if you really just prefer fresh vegetables, something to consider with that is, for me at least, I used to feel like frozen vegetables weren’t as healthy as fresh because they must be processed in some sort of way, right? They’re really not. They’re actually oftentimes healthier than the fresh vegetables that come in your produce section. And the reason for that is they are flash frozen within hours of being picked. So they’ve got more vitamins and nutrients because they haven’t sat on the shelf, so to speak, so they are actually really healthy for you. So if that has been a deterrent in the past from using frozen vegetables, I would highly encourage you to get over that and start using them more in your daily life.
This will make a really easy transition if you ever find yourself in a spot where fresh produce is tough to come by. You can’t really store fresh produce just on your counter or in your vegetable drawer in your fridge, but you can store frozen veggies for quite a while.
Â
So $30…If you are not a frozen vegetable or a fresh vegetable kind of person, and you reach for the cans, then spend your money on canned vegetables this week. That would be an easy substitution. Of course there are more health benefits to the frozen vegetables. They’re going to do you more good nutritionally, if you find yourself in a place where you need to use your food storage. But you also don’t wanna buy a bunch of frozen vegetables if they’re just gonna sit in your freezer for five years. So get the cans if that’s what you’re used to. That would be the substitution this week. And again, spend about $30.
Let me know if you have any questions and have a great week!
